How to Stick Double Side Tape to Silicone?
30 Jul 2026
If you've ever tried to attach double-sided tape to a silicone surface, you know the frustration: The double-sided tape can be peeled off with just a gentle pull.

Why Won't Double Side Tape Stick to Silicone Surface?
As we mentioned in the previous article, silicone has extremely low surface energy, just 20–24 dynes/cm. However, standard double-sided tapes need a surface energy of roughly 34 dynes/cm or higher to form a strong bond. You have to change the silicone surface itself, choose the right adhesion promoter will effectively help you.
An adhesion promoter is a chemical treatment applied to the silicone surface before bonding. Its core components (such as silane coupling agents) act as "chemical bridges," tightly bonding the silicone surface to the adhesive tape through a dual-action reaction, thereby significantly enhancing bond strength.
1, Surface treatment: clean the silicone surface with toluene.
2, Brushing, painting or spraying the CL-14A-2K adhesion promoter on the silicone surfaces. leave dry in room temp for 3-10 minutes. Please keep it clean.
3, Attach the silicone surface to double side tape, press it with roller. The bonding strength will be 70% complete for 1hour and reach the maximum after 24 hours.
Tips :
- Ensure adequate ventilation and wear protective equipment during operation.
- For first-time use, it is recommended to conduct a small-scale test to confirm compatibility with your silicone and tape.
Double-sided tape does not adhere well to silicone, rather than repeatedly testing various tapes, it is better to use an adhesion promoter to solve the issue at the source.
