Why can't ordinary glue stick to silicone products?
08 May 2025
The insensitivity of the silicone surface is the main reason why silicone cannot stick. Due to the stability of the chemical properties of silicone, the silicone substrate is insensitive to most glues during the bonding process. Generally, quick-drying silicone glue and silicone instant glue are recommended to bond small-area silicone substrates. However, because silicone material is a relatively difficult material to bond, it needs to be treated with a silicone surface treatment agent before use. First, treat the silicone surface with a silicone treatment agent, and then use quick-drying silicone glue to bond after evaporation to achieve a good bonding effect; of course, there is also a silicone glue for bonding silicone substrates without a treatment agent.
Generally, slow-drying silicone glue is used to bond large-area silicone substrate products. Usually, organic silicone glue and silicone treatment agents are used to bond products. Of course, you can also choose to use treatment-free silicone glue for direct bonding to ensure that the silicone and silicone substrate can be well bonded together.
