What kind of adhesive is used to bond molded silicone rubber to metal?
27 Nov 2025
For bonding molded silicone rubber to metal, the following types of adhesives are recommended and analyzed below:
I. Recommended Adhesive Types
* **Room Temperature Silicone Bonding RTV Silicone Adhesive:** Kanglibang KN-300 series silicone adhesive has passed SGS international safety certification and is globally applicable! The adhesive is environmentally friendly! It has undergone rigorous industry testing, including double 85 testing and elasticity testing.
**Suitable for scenarios requiring rapid positioning or small-area bonding.**
**Easy to use; no mixing required, simply apply directly.**
**Forms a soft elastomer after curing with a wide temperature range.**
**High bonding strength to silicone, metals (stainless steel, aluminum, etc.), and plastics (PC, PMMA, etc.).**
**Representative Product:** Kanglibang KN-300X
**Applicable Scenarios:** Typically used for bonding room temperature molded silicone rubber to silicone, plastics, and metals.
* **Two-component heat-curing silicone adhesive:**
**Automotive manufacturing (e.g., bonding silicone seals to metal bodies).**
**Industrial electrical equipment coating and bonding (e.g., sealing silicone to metal casings).** Heating curing results in higher bonding strength and excellent high-temperature resistance (some products can withstand temperatures above 300℃).
Suitable for compression molding processes, enabling integrated bonding of silicone and metal.
Representative products: Silicone-to-metal heat-curing adhesive, silicone-to-metal heat-curing agent.
Fast-drying adhesive (cyanoacrylate type): For temporary bonding or rapid positioning of small areas of silicone to metal.
Suitable for scenarios where high bonding strength is not required (e.g., assembling silicone buttons to metal brackets).
Fast curing speed (surface dry in 10 seconds to several minutes), suitable for rapid production.
Sensitive to humidity; requires operation in a dry environment.
Representative product: Kanglibang fast-drying adhesive
II. Operating Procedure
Surface Treatment:
Clean the metal surface (remove grease and dust), and grind or sandblast if necessary to increase roughness.
For silicone surfaces requiring high-strength bonding, a primer can be used for activation.
Application Process:
Single-component adhesive: Apply directly to the bonding surfaces, apply evenly, and then press together.
Two-component adhesives: Mix according to the specified ratio before application. Strict control of the mixing ratio and curing time is required.
Curing conditions: Room temperature curing adhesives: Curing time 24 hours (7 days for complete curing).
Heat-curing adhesives: Control the heating temperature and time according to the product instructions (e.g., 150℃ × 10 minutes).
Environmental control: Avoid operation in humid, high-temperature, or polluted environments to prevent affecting the bonding effect.
