What is the best adhesive for bonding stainless steel and plastic?
09 Dec 2025
When bonding stainless steel and plastics, there are several adhesives to choose from. The specific adhesive selected depends on the application requirements and environmental conditions. Here are some commonly used adhesives and their characteristics:
AB Epoxy Resin Adhesive: This adhesive is a common choice. It has strong adhesion and good corrosion resistance, making it suitable for high-temperature and humid environments. When using it, the A and B components need to be mixed in the correct proportions and allowed to cure.
Polyurethane Adhesive: Polyurethane adhesives are characterized by high viscosity and a wide viscosity range. They also possess excellent flexibility and freeze-thaw resistance, making them suitable for low-temperature environments. Use according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Epoxy Acrylic Adhesive: This is a two-component adhesive with strong adhesion and corrosion resistance, suitable for low-temperature environments.
KN-300A Silicone to Stainless Steel Adhesive: This is a specialized adhesive for bonding silicone to metals (stainless steel, iron, aluminum, copper, etc.) and plastics at room temperature. It is widely used in the production and processing of electronics, automobiles, instruments, medical devices, kitchenware, etc. In addition, silicone adhesives for bonding metals are also good choices, offering excellent water resistance, corrosion resistance, and chemical stability.
When choosing an adhesive, the following points should also be considered:
Surface Cleaning: Before bonding, the surfaces of both stainless steel and plastic must be thoroughly cleaned to ensure a good bond.
Bond Strength: The bonding strength between stainless steel and plastic is affected by the type of plastic; it is generally suitable for connecting lightweight items.
Environmental Conditions: Consider factors such as temperature and humidity in the environment when choosing an adhesive.
In conclusion, there is no single "best" adhesive; selection must be based on specific needs and environmental conditions. It is recommended to conduct small-scale tests before actual application to ensure the chosen adhesive meets the requirements.
Characteristics of KN-300A Silicone and Stainless Steel Bonding Adhesive:
1. Appearance: Colorless, semi-transparent colloid;
2. Viscosity: 6 kg/cm³;
3. Elongation: 200%;
4. After bonding, silicone and metal can withstand temperatures from -60°C to 280°C;
6. After bonding, silicone and metal have a pH value greater than 7 for acid and greater than 14 for alkali;
7. After bonding, silicone and metal can withstand being cut, scratched, scraped, and torn with force without falling off (tear resistance > 15 kg);
Instructions for Use of KN-300A Silicone-Metal Bonding Adhesive:
1. Clean the surfaces to be bonded. Clean both the metal and silicone surfaces with toluene or alcohol;
2. Apply KN-300A silicone adhesive evenly to the bonding interface of the silicone or metal strip;
3. Apply pressure and position the silicone and metal together for at least half an hour. Allow to stand at room temperature for 12 hours for optimal results.
Note: If the metal surface is smooth, please perform anodizing, hydrochloric acid treatment, or sandblasting.
Precautions for KN-300A silicone-to-stainless steel bonding adhesive:
1. KN-300A hardens easily when exposed to moisture; it must be stored in a sealed container away from heat and light.
2. Avoid direct contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse immediately with water and then seek medical attention.
3. After use, tighten the cap to prevent the adhesive from hardening.
Packaging of KN-300A silicone-to-metal adhesive: 1 x 300g/tube
