What is an adhesive?
20 Nov 2025
Adhesives typically consist of the following components:
Base material (binder): The core component, determining the adhesive's main properties (such as bond strength, temperature resistance, etc.). Common base materials include natural polymers (starch, animal glue), synthetic polymers (epoxy resins, polyurethanes, acrylates), and inorganic materials (silicates).
Curing agent/accelerator: Accelerates the adhesive's curing reaction, improving bonding efficiency.
Filler: Improves physical properties (such as hardness, abrasion resistance), reducing costs.
Plasticizer: Increases the adhesive's flexibility.
Solvent: Adjusts the adhesive's viscosity, facilitating application (some adhesives are solvent-free).
Other additives: Such as defoamers, preservatives, stabilizers, etc.
