What is adhesive melt?

02 Dec 2025

Chemical adhesives, also known as white glue, are water-based adhesives with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) or PVAc as their main component.

They are widely used for bonding materials such as paper, fabric, and wood, and are environmentally friendly and durable. Here are the details:
I. Common Types of Chemical Adhesives
Organic Solvent Types:

KL-492 chemical adhesive is a mixed solvent composed of various single-element solvents. It features strong adhesion, fast drying, and is non-toxic and environmentally friendly.

It is mainly suitable for bonding non-breakable plastics, K-materials, ABS, and other plastic materials.

Basic Physical Properties

Appearance: Colorless transparent liquid

Specific Gravity: 0.82 +/- 0.1

Boiling Point: 90-108℃

Autoignition Point: 516℃

Characteristics

Strong, fast-drying

Stability and Reactivity

Stability: Stable

Polymerization Hazards: No self-polymerization occurs

Hazardous Decomposition Products: None

Storage Precautions

1. Keep storage container tightly closed.

2. Keep storage location cool and well-ventilated.

3. Shelf life is 1 year.

II. Characteristics and Uses of Chemical Adhesives

Environmental Protection: Water-based, non-toxic or low-toxic, forms a strong adhesive film after drying, suitable for household and industrial applications.

Adhesive Performance: Strong adhesion to porous materials (such as paper, wood, and fabric), but poor water resistance. Performance is often improved through chemical modification (such as adding epoxy resin).

Application Areas: Mainly used in papermaking, wood processing, and handicraft production; also suitable for bookbinding and furniture manufacturing. III. Differences from Other Glues

vs. 502 Glue: Chemical glue is water-based, dries more slowly, and is more environmentally friendly; 502 glue, with ethyl α-cyanoacrylate as its main component, is a solvent-based glue, cures quickly but may irritate the skin.

vs. Industrial Glues: Chemical glue focuses on general bonding; industrial glues (such as polyurethane and silicone types) are specifically designed for high-temperature and corrosion-resistant applications (such as aerospace sealing).

vs. Synthetic Adhesives: Chemical glue is a subclass of synthetic adhesives, which encompass a wider range of types (such as hot melt adhesives and UV adhesives), but chemical glue is characterized by its water-based nature.

IV. Common Misconceptions

“Chemical glue is a universal solvent-based glue”: Different glues have significantly different compositions; the appropriate solvent must be selected.

“Higher concentration means better results”: Excessive use may damage the substrate or leave harmful residues.

“Ignore reaction time”: Some glues require soaking for several hours to completely dissolve; patience is required.

If you need to address a specific adhesive issue, it is recommended to first identify the type of adhesive (e.g., epoxy, silicone, hot melt, etc.) and then select a matching adhesive agent or method.
