What are the advantages and disadvantages of silicone adhesive?
16 Dec 2025
Silicone is widely used as an adhesive in our daily lives, such as in silicone glue, silicone adhesives, and silicone treatment agents. Below, Kanglibang will introduce the advantages and disadvantages of silicone glue.
Silicone glue is a type of adhesive used for bonding silicone to silicone or similar plastics. It cures by contact with water molecules on the surface of the bonded or sealed objects or in the air. It has wide applications in mobile phone buttons, silicone-to-silicone bonding, and silicone with metals, plastics, wood, stone, glass, nylon, and other materials.
Advantages of Silicone Glue:
The biggest advantage of silicone glue is its soft texture and excellent light transmittance. Good light transmittance requires transparency. Transparent silicone glue is generally used for bonding silicone materials. It is resistant to acid and alkali corrosion and also works well for outdoor products. It comes in single-component and two-component silicone glues. It can withstand high temperatures, generally around 300 degrees Celsius. The curing time depends on the bonding area; small areas cure in ten minutes, while larger areas take slightly longer.
Disadvantages of silicone adhesive:
This disadvantage mainly applies to products requiring large-area bonding. Large-area bonding will result in longer curing times. However, these are minor issues and do not affect the quality. Silicone adhesive is relatively soft, so customers requiring a very good seal will have to choose epoxy resin AB glue instead. These disadvantages are relative to customer needs and are not universally applicable.
