The role of silicone interface agent
03 Nov 2025
Silicone interface agent is an interface treatment material with silicone as its core component. It is primarily used to improve the adhesion between different materials, and is widely used, especially in the construction, decoration, and industrial fields.
Its core functions can be summarized as follows:
1. Enhanced Adhesion
Solving Adhesion Problems: When two materials (such as concrete and tile, wood and metal) have significantly different surface properties, direct bonding can easily lead to hollow areas and detachment. Silicone interface agent penetrates into the micropores of the substrate surface, forming a mechanical interlocking effect, while simultaneously chemically bonding with the upper layer material, significantly improving adhesion strength.
Application Scenarios: Pre-treating walls and floors before tile laying to prevent hollow areas; enhancing the adhesion between new paint and the substrate during old wall renovation.
2. Improved Surface Properties
Sealing Substrate Pores: For porous materials (such as aerated concrete and gypsum board), interface agents can fill surface pores, reducing water absorption and preventing subsequent materials from cracking or losing strength due to rapid moisture loss.
Improved Smoothness: Some interface agents have the ability to fill micro-unevennesses, providing a smoother substrate for subsequent construction.
3. Moisture and Mildew Proof
Blocks Water Penetration: The hydrophobic silicone component forms a waterproof film on the substrate surface, effectively preventing moisture intrusion, especially suitable for damp environments (such as bathrooms and kitchens) or external wall insulation systems.
Inhibits Mold Growth: By blocking moisture and nutrient sources, it reduces mold growth and extends the material's lifespan.
4. Weather Resistance and Durability
Resists Environmental Erosion: Silicone interface agents are UV-resistant and acid/alkali-resistant, protecting the substrate from wind, rain, and chemical erosion, suitable for exposed environments such as exterior walls and roofs.
Extends Service Life: Reduces aging and peeling of the adhesive layer caused by environmental factors.
5. Adaptable to Complex Substrates
Wide Compatibility: Can handle various substrates, including smooth (such as glass and metal), porous (such as brick walls), and highly absorbent (such as wood), with targeted reinforcement achieved through formula adjustments.
Repairs Old Substrates: Reinforces aging and powdery wall surfaces, providing a reliable foundation for renovation.
6. Ease of Application
Simple Operation: Typically applied by brushing or spraying, it dries quickly and does not affect subsequent processes.
Environmentally Friendly: Some products are water-based, with low VOC emissions, meeting green building standards.
Product Recommendation: Silicone Preparing Agent K770-2
K770-2 is a high-efficiency, fast-acting silicone rubber preparing agent for bonding silicone rubber to plastics. Commonly known as silicone preparing agent, it is used in conjunction with instant adhesives and features rapid bonding, strong adhesion, low whitening, and ease of use.
Widely used in the P+R process for mobile phone keypads.
Precautions: K770-2 preparing agent is highly volatile and must be stored in a cool, dry place. Seal tightly after use.
The brush used for applying the preparing agent and the work surface should be frequently wiped clean with a cloth (soaked in white spirit). Keep the area clean at all times.
Wear finger cots when working. Do not touch the silicone rubber after applying the primer. Use within 8 hours.
K770-2 treatment agent is irritating. Ensure good ventilation during use, and especially avoid splashing into the eyes. If splashed into the eyes, immediately rinse with plenty of water and seek medical attention promptly.
Silicone interface agents, through both physical and chemical actions, construct a "bridge" between materials, making them a key auxiliary material for improving engineering quality and durability.
