why silicone adhesive takes a long time to dry when bonding to ABS plastic
11 Dec 2025
The reasons why silicone adhesive takes a long time to dry when bonding to ABS are as follows:
1. The adhesive force between silicone and ABS material is relatively weak, therefore a slow-drying adhesive is needed for bonding. Slow-drying adhesives have a longer bonding time, usually requiring 24 hours to fully cure, to ensure a stable bond between the silicone and ABS material.
2. The slower curing time of slow-drying adhesives is because the adhesive needs more time to penetrate and diffuse into the surface of the materials to achieve the best bonding effect.
In general, the advantages of slow-drying adhesives include good sealing and waterproofing performance, solvent-free, environmentally friendly and non-corrosive, high and low temperature resistance, good physical/chemical stability, and easy operation.
Today we recommend an instant adhesive:
360 Primer-Free Silicone Instant Adhesive Advantages:
1: No primer required, saving steps
2: Low whitening, high viscosity
3: Easy to apply
Primer-Free Silicone Adhesive Applications:
* Bonding silicone to various plastics (such as ABS, PC, etc.) and metals (stainless steel, aluminum alloy, etc.).
* Bonding silicone to silicone products at room temperature.
* Silicone gifts, silicone toys.
Typical Physical Properties of Primer-Free Silicone Adhesive:
Appearance: Slightly yellowish transparent liquid
Main component: α-cyanoacrylate
Curing time: ≤50S
Viscosity: 20-30mpa.s
Shear strength: ≥20Mpa
Viscosity: 20-30mpa.s
Temperature resistance: 80℃
*Standard description: Viscosity is measured at 25℃
How to Use Primer-Free Silicone Adhesive:
1: Clean the silicone substrate to be bonded with alcohol. For metal substrates, it is recommended to sand and then clean with alcohol to remove oil and grease;
2: Apply 360 adhesive to one side, then press the bonding surfaces together for a few seconds.
