What to do if the silicone adhesive is weak? Using silicone surfactant
21 Aug 2026
Ⅰ. Why is it difficult to bond silicone surfaces?
The main component of silicone is silicon dioxide, which has strong surface inertness, lacks active groups, has low surface energy, a weak boundary layer, and poor interfacial wettability.
In short, silicone is chemically very stable and repels most adhesives, making it difficult to bond effectively with other materials.
This low surface energy and chemical inertness result in poor adhesion of silicone to most substrates, becoming a challenge in bonding technology.
Ⅱ. What is a silicone silicone surfactant?
Silicone surfactant (also known as silicone adhesive, primer, PRIMER, etc.) is a special agent used to activate the surface of silicone. It is a single-component, fast-evaporating solvent or liquid, mainly composed of organosilicon polymers and solvents. Its core function is to chemically alter the chemical and physical properties of the silicone surface, enhancing its adhesion, adsorption, and compatibility with other materials.
Ⅲ. How to use silicone surfactant?
Step 1: Clean the Surface
Clean the silicone substrate surfaces to be bonded, removing oil, mold release agent, dust, and other contaminants. Toluene, acetone, or a specialized cleaner can be used.
Step 2: Apply the Activator
Apply the activator(K770) evenly to the silicone rubber surfaces to be bonded using a smear, dip, or spray method. Generally, apply 1-2 coats, controlling the coating thickness to be within the range of 0.05-0.1mm.
Step 3: Bond After Drying
After the residual solvent in the activator has evaporated (approximately 1-5 minutes, usually around 5 minutes), you can then apply the instant adhesive for bonding.
Ⅳ. Precautions for Using K770
①K770 treatment agent is highly volatile and must be stored in a cool, dry place. Seal the container immediately after use.
②The brush used for applying the treatment agent and the work surface should be wiped clean frequently with a cloth soaked in white spirit. Keep the area clean at all times.
③Wear finger cots when working. Do not touch the silicone rubber after applying the primer. Use the product within 2 hours.
④K770 treatment agent is irritating. Ensure good ventilation during use, and especially avoid splashing into the eyes. If splashed into the eyes, immediately flush with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
