How to stick silicone to iron? Learn about the two molding processes

28 Jul 2025

Silicone glue is a very common process in silicone products. So how to glue silicone to iron? Iron has good high temperature resistance, and there are two molding processes:
1. Bonding of molded silicone and iron. Silicone is molded into the shape the customer wants after high temperature molding and then bonded to the metal material. There are usually two bonding methods.
1. Slow-drying glue
① Cleaning, clean the surface of silicone and iron with alcohol. Make sure the material to be bonded is clean.
② Apply glue, apply KN-300H evenly on the surface of silicone or iron (whichever side is more convenient), and press the two materials together.
③ Leave it for 12 hours to see the bonding effect.
2. Quick-drying glue
① First treat the surface of silicone to be bonded with K770. K770 treatment agent is liquid and easier to operate. It can be brushed, coated, or soaked. Let it dry at room temperature for 5 minutes. Silicone with K770 treatment agent can be glued within 12 hours (each company's treatment agent may be different, you need to ask the manufacturer clearly)
② Apply quick-drying glue 601 to one side of the silicone or stainless steel (whichever side is more convenient) and press the two materials together for a few seconds. Leave it at room temperature for 1 minute to see the bonding effect.

2. Bonding of unformed silicone and iron, because iron material can withstand high temperature, there are two molding processes
1. Liquid silicone or platinum-cured solid silicone coated iron
① Surface treatment. Degrease after sanding
② Glue coating. Apply CL-24S-15 evenly (or soak, brush, etc.) on the surface to be bonded of the material and bake at 130° for 10 minutes.
③ Molding. The cooled iron and liquid silicone are molded in the mold.
2. Double-pentane-cured silicone and iron are molded together in the mold
① Surface treatment. Degrease the substrate after mechanical sandblasting or sandpaper polishing.
② Glue coating. Apply CL-24S-3 evenly (or soak, brush, etc.) on the surface of the iron to be bonded.
③ Drying. Dry at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, or dry at a medium temperature below 90°C for 5 to 15 minutes.
④ Storage. After applying the glue, it is advisable to bond as soon as possible, preferably on the same day. If pollution and contact with high temperature and humid air are avoided, it can be stored for no more than 5 days.
⑤ Vulcanization. Molding or hot air vulcanization bonding of uncured silicone and substrate.
