How to handle defective silicone-coated aluminum materials?

26 Nov 2025

I. Analysis of Defective Product Causes

Material Issues: Poor adhesion between silicone and aluminum may be due to improper adhesive selection or lack of primer treatment.

Contamination on the silicone or aluminum surface, such as grease or dust, affects adhesion.

Poor quality silicone material itself, such as insufficient tear strength, leads to brittle and easily broken products.

Process Issues: Insufficient vulcanization time or an incomplete vulcanization system results in incomplete curing of the silicone.

Inappropriate mold design, such as poor venting or improper parting line selection, leads to incomplete air filling or glue overflow.

Improper setting of process parameters such as injection pressure, temperature, and speed affects product quality.

Equipment Issues: Aging or worn equipment, such as a malfunctioning mold-locking mechanism, causes loose mold closure and glue overflow.

Mixing system malfunction leads to uneven mixing of the adhesive, affecting product quality.

Environmental Issues: An unclean production environment, such as workshop dust or oil stains adhering to the mold or product surface, affects product quality.

Improper control of environmental factors such as temperature and humidity can affect the vulcanization effect of silicone rubber.

II. Handling of Defective Products
Repair or Reprocessing: For defective products with black spots or impurities on the surface, a special treatment agent can be used to wipe them or they can be lightly sanded.

For defective products that have come unglued due to poor adhesion, they can be re-bonded to ensure a tight bond between the silicone rubber and the aluminum material.

Kanglibang® CL-T03 Silicone Removing Agent

Suitable for cleaning residual adhesive from various metal (copper, alloy, stainless steel), glass, ceramic, and other surfaces. It degrades polymers and dissolves hardened and unhardened silicone elastomers into an oily paste without affecting other components.

Applications of Silicone Removing Agent:
※Repair of silicone-coated metal parts
※Metal-plastic bonded parts
