How to apply a phone screen protector
11 Nov 2025
Applying a phone screen protector requires careful handling to ensure a tight fit, no air bubbles, and smooth edges. Medical-grade environmentally friendly silicone gel is recommended.
This product, KL-6635AB medical-grade environmentally friendly silicone gel, is a heat-curing, fast-setting two-component silicone rubber adhesive. After curing, it exhibits good adhesion to substrates such as silicone and TPU;
and improves the surface peel strength of silicone. The adhesive has good flowability before curing;
After curing, it possesses excellent electrical insulation and high transparency, along with excellent surface peel strength.
It can be reused when in contact with skin. If stains appear on the surface, apply detergent and rinse thoroughly with water.
It is widely used in silicone screen protectors such as massage patches and mobile phone screen protectors.
The following are detailed steps and precautions:
I. Preparation
Clean the phone screen
Use alcohol wipes or a special cleaning cloth to thoroughly wipe the screen to remove fingerprints, dust, and oil stains.
A second cleaning can be done with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Ensure the screen is completely dry before applying the screen protector.
Prepare tools
Screen protector (including the screen protector, dust removal sticker, scraper, and other accessories).
A clean work surface (avoid dust).
Ruler or card (optional, for positioning assistance).
II. Adhesion Steps
1. Positioning the Screen Protector
Method 1: Direct Application
Tear off 1/3 of the release liner at the bottom of the screen protector. Align the screen protector with the edge of the phone screen (e.g., earpiece, camera position), slowly lower it, and adjust the angle.
Method 2: Auxiliary Positioning
Use tape to secure the screen protector above the phone (without removing the release liner). After alignment, peel off the release liner and use the tape to suspend and apply the screen protector.
2. Gradual Application
Starting from one end (e.g., the top), gently press with a scraper or your finger while slowly peeling off the release liner. Avoid tearing it off all at once, which could allow dust to enter.
While applying, use a scraper to push from the center outwards to expel air and prevent air bubbles from forming.
3. Removing Air Bubbles
Small air bubbles: Use a scraper to push outwards from the center of the bubble, or puncture the bubble with a needle and flatten it.
Large air bubbles: Lift the edge of the screen protector, reapply it, and remove air.
4. Trim the Edges (if needed)
If the screen protector doesn't fully cover the screen or extends beyond the edge, carefully trim it along the phone's edge with a utility knife to ensure a proper fit.
III. Key Techniques
Environmental Control
Operate in a dust-free, dry environment, avoiding windy or humid weather.
Wash and dry your hands before applying the screen protector to reduce oil contamination.
Dust Prevention
Clean the screen of any residual dust with a dust remover before applying the screen protector.
If dust gets into the screen protector during application, peel it off, remove it with the dust remover, and then reapply it.
Tool Usage
Use a squeegee wrapped with a soft cloth (such as an eyeglass cleaning cloth) to press and push the screen protector, avoiding scratching it.
Use a ruler to help align the edges during positioning.
IV. Common Problem Solutions
Screen Protector Misalignment
Immediately peel it off and realign it; avoid adjusting after it's fully applied.
Edge Lifting
Use a hairdryer on a low heat to soften the edge (e.g., tempered glass) and then flatten it.
Fingerprint Residue
Wipe the surface with a cleaning cloth dampened with a small amount of alcohol after applying the screen protector.
V. Precautions for Different Types of Screen Protectors
Tempered Glass Screen Protector: Apply quickly and precisely to avoid the adhesive layer drying out.
The edge curvature must match the phone's shape; otherwise, it may lift.
Hydrogel Screen Protector: Allow to cure for 24 hours after application; avoid immediate use.
A small amount of water can be sprayed from a spray bottle to aid adhesion (follow the instructions).
PET Soft Film: Air should be released multiple times during application to avoid wrinkles.
The edges can be slightly heated with a heat gun to enhance adhesion.
By following these steps and techniques, even beginners can easily apply screen protectors. The key is patience, meticulousness, and making full use of tools to assist with positioning and air release.
