How long does it take for metal adhesive to solidify?

26 Sep 2025

The following is a detailed analysis:

1. Classification by Curing Stage
Initial Fixture Time (Working Time)
Instant-drying adhesives (such as Strong Fast-Drying Metal Adhesive 601): Upon contact with the metal surface, moisture in the air triggers a polymerization reaction, resulting in rapid bonding in as little as 5 seconds. They offer strong adhesion, minimal whitening, and resistance to brittleness. Suitable for quick positioning or small-area bonding.

Silicone-to-Metal Nickel-Plated Adhesive CL-26AB-3: This product is primarily used for hot-vulcanizing silicone rubber cured with platinum vulcanizers and nylon (PA66 or PA plastic, etc.) in molds.

Silicone-to-Metal Adhesive KN-300T: It has a longer initial fixture time, ranging from approximately 30 minutes to several hours. It is a slow-drying adhesive that bonds silicone to metals (stainless steel, iron, aluminum, copper, etc.) and plastics at room temperature. Applications include electronics, automotive, instrumentation, medical devices, and kitchenware. Full Cure Time
Instant-drying adhesives: While quick to set, they take several to 24 hours to fully cure, with strength gradually increasing over time.
Silicone-to-nickel-plated metal adhesives: Full cure typically takes 24 hours, but heating can shorten this time to several hours.
High-temperature-curing adhesives (such as stainless steel foil adhesives) require accelerated curing with heat, for example, curing at 150°C for 15-30 minutes, reaching peak strength after 24 hours.
II. Impact of Environmental Factors on Curing Time
Temperature: Increasing temperature accelerates the curing reaction, while decreasing temperature prolongs it.
Humidity: Instant-drying adhesives rely on moisture for curing. High humidity can shorten the initial cure time, but excessive humidity may cause the adhesive layer to bleach or weaken.
Adhesive Thickness: Thicker adhesive layers require longer cure times due to slower internal heat and moisture diffusion.
Mixing Ratio: Two-component adhesives must be mixed precisely. Deviations in the mixing ratio may result in incomplete curing or prolonged curing. III. Practical Application Recommendations
Read the instructions: Curing times for various Kangliban adhesives vary significantly. Always refer to the product specifications before use.
Control environmental conditions: Operate within appropriate temperature and humidity levels to avoid extreme environments that may affect the curing effect.
Test cure strength: Avoid excessive stress before the adhesive is fully cured. Test the adhesive layer by tapping or gently bending it to see if it has hardened.
Heat to accelerate curing: For high-temperature-resistant adhesives, heat can be used to shorten the curing time, but the temperature must be controlled to prevent material deformation.
