How can ceramic and silicone be bonded together?
23 Dec 2025
Many bonding processes can be used to bond ceramics and silicone rubber together. Different bonding processes have different bonding methods. Let's first look at the traditional hot vulcanization process: CL-26AB-1.
1. Surface treatment: Chemically treat the substrate with a solvent to remove oil and dust.
2. Adhesive application: Mix the two-component AB adhesive evenly, then apply it using brushing, dipping, spraying, or screen printing (the sooner the bonding is completed after application, the better).
3. Drying: Dry at a medium temperature below 110℃ for 5-15 minutes (depending on the actual situation).
4. Vulcanization: Bond the unvulcanized silicone rubber to the substrate by roller pressing or hot air vulcanization.
Now let's look at the popular room temperature process: KN-300,
1. Clean the ceramic surface with alcohol;
2. Apply KN-300 evenly to the ceramic surface;
3. Press the silicone rubber and ceramic together and wait for curing.
There is also a rapid heat curing process using the addition-curing silicone adhesive KL-3636.
1. Take out the silicone adhesive and mix it at a ratio of A:B = 1:1.
2. After the liquid silicone adhesive is completely mixed, pour it onto the screen and apply the liquid silicone adhesive to the surface of the substrate to be bonded.
3. Place the assembly fixture containing the silicone product tightly against the adhesive-coated surface to be bonded, and bake them together in an oven.
4. Vertical oven: Cure at 120°C for 10-15 minutes. The cured adhesive will fuse the silicone with the surface to be bonded. Horizontal tunnel oven: Cure at 140°C for 5-10 minutes.
Here are several major types of bonding processes and methods that can bond ceramics and silicone together!
