Bonding Metal and Glass with UV glue

06 Aug 2026

I.What glue can firmly bond metal and glass?
We recommend UV glue. It is one of the best choices for joining transparent materials with metals, delivering transparent, residue‑free, and high‑strength bonds.

II.What is UV glue?

UV glue (also known as light-curing adhesive) is a well-established and mature solution for bonding glass to metal. It is widely used in glass furniture, clocks & watches, crafts, electronic components, optical parts, and many other fields. Both glass and metal are high‑surface‑energy materials, which allows most UV glue to wet them well, ensuring good compatibility.

III. What preparations are needed before bonding?

The glass and metal surfaces to be bonded must be thoroughly cleaned, free of water stains, oil, dust, and other impurities. Surface cleanliness and smoothness directly affect the bonding quality. It is recommended to wipe with alcohol or acetone to remove oil and ensure complete drying.

IV. How much UV glue should be applied? What is the appropriate adhesive layer thickness?

Do not apply too much. An excessively thick adhesive layer not only makes curing difficult but may also generate air bubbles during the curing process. It is recommended to control the adhesive layer thickness between 0.04 and 0.06 mm. After applying the adhesive, bring the bonding surfaces together and press firmly to distribute the adhesive evenly and remove air bubbles.

V. How to remove excess adhesive?

After positioning (and initial curing), gently wipe away excess adhesive with a soft cloth or paper towel. You can also wipe with acetone or alcohol. Once fully cured, the adhesive layer is difficult to remove and requires scraping with a blade.

VI.What wavelength of light is needed for UV adhesive to cure?

The commonly used wavelength is 365nm ultraviolet light.

Some products can cure in the range of 365nm~400nm.

VII.How long does curing take?

Curing time varies depending on the adhesive type, light source power, and irradiation distance, and cannot be generalized.

VIII.Generally

• Initial positioning: a few seconds to about 10 seconds.

• Complete curing: continue irradiation for 30~120 seconds.

It is recommended to conduct experiments based on specific products and equipment to determine the optimal curing time.
